There are several reason why it may necessary to perform a NEW FRESH of a computer's operating system. At Custom Computer Consulting can take the stress of our client's having to reload new OS along with all the necessary drivers need to support the computer's operation. We offer a complete reinstall service plus additional modification to how the types of operating systems, the method of installation, and the final setup.

When it is possible, it is always best to use any original recovery disk that may have accompanied your computer system. Computer manufeatures use a combination of recovery methods. Some reserve a section of the drive to store the recovery and/or have recovery disk that can be used to restore a operating system in the event of corruption or hard drive failure. The problem with storing the a recovery image on a hard drive where the operating system reisdes should the hard disk fail possible recovery is s. Both your recovery image and operating system are LOST if they can not be recovered. This is why Custom Computer Consulting strongly recommends that you create a recovery image of the operating system as well as any recovery image, prior to the use of the computer. It allows for the complete recovery of image avoid the hassle of having to reload the OS along with the various setup perimeters and all the necessary drivers to have a working operating system.

.

Custom Computer Consulting can advise our client's on how to properly maintain a secure copy of their operating system and any other application that are stored on the computer. If neither a recovery disk, or operatig system disk is available, and you can no longer access to the recovery image it may be necessary to purchase another copy of the operating system.

Preparing the Drive
Custom Computer Consulting will reformat the drive and run a diagnostic check for any possible errors that may be occurring on the hard drive. This test will give us an idea to the condition of the drive.

REASON WHY a FULL OS Installation MAY BE NECESSARY

I. Reinstall Operating System
It is possible throughout the service of a computer that it may be necessary to perform a reinstall of the operating system. This can be the result of several factories where the OS becomes corrupted or a hardware failure occurs.

Other facts include: Software Rot (code rot, bit rot). A software erosion, software decay or software entropy). Overtime the software performance diminish in responsiveness that could lead to software becoming faulty (called “Legacy”), It is not a physical degradation but is a software deterioration where over a period of time (known as legacy) develops errors (known as software rot). Dormant rot is when the software that is not being used gradually becomes unusable as the remainder of the applications changes. Also, changes in user requirements can contribute to deterioration. Active rot - This is when the software that is being continuously modified loses its integrity over time. A result of the software being updated continuously to meet new requirements and correct bugs.

Depending on severity of the situation we offer different types of re-installation of the operating system and the programs already installed. If you need assistance in determining the appropriate reinstall we can assist you in determining the best course of action.

The remedy is to completely reinitializes its state (by performing a complete reinstallation of all relevant software components, including your operating system). Several factors are responsible for software rot.

Environment changes - Changes that occur in the program environment that was not anticipate by the software designer.
Onceability - Changes that occur in the environment not related to the program’s designer but its users.
Unused code - Portions of the code that are normally executed may contain bugs that go unnoticed.
Rarely Update Code - Normal maintenance of software and systems may cause software rot.

A computer reinstall is used to restore the computer back to normal operations. They are a few different methods used to reinstall an operating system. The method used is determined by the event preceding the problem. An Operating System (OS) can become corrupted resulting in an unstable system, such as a hardware failure. A conflict with a recent installed program or device driver all can lead to an unstable system requiring a reinstall. In majority of cases, it will require further evaluation to determine the underlining reason to the OS unstableness. In some cases customer may wish to preserve important data to reduce unnecessary downtime. It may be may be necessary to transfer your entire contents from the hard drive to an external storage drive until a fresh operating system is reinstalled. Once a fresh operating system is installed along with the program applications the data files can then be transferred back to the original drive.

ll. New Operating System Install
The other possible scenarios involves a new custom built computer system that has been built by US. In this case we will install the necessary operating system that best operating system that best fit your needs and install all the necessary drivers to support the computer hardware. All back-up images are retained for 30-days and are deleted.

llI. OS Downgrade / Upgrade
There are two service options available in regards in reinstalling an operating system. The client can either upgrade or downgrade to the different operating system.

Upgrade
This service will upgrade any previous installed operating system. However, full integration is not always possible. Problems can arise during an upgrade attempt. They can include

Hardware compatibility issues
Insufficient hardware resources for upgrade
Driver Incompatibility (Internal components associated with your computer)
Setup Errors & Freezes (a result of insufficient hardware and/or software compatibility issues.
Software application compatibility issues)
Data loss (data gets deleted, corrupted, or overwritten)
Performance Problems (insufficient hardware, the wrong drivers, application incompatibility, etc.)

All can effect performance issues.

Prior to any upgrade CCC will assist our clients in evaluating the client’s present hardware and software requirements to determine the feasibility of an upgrade or if an complete reinstall of a new operating system is necessary. In many cases CCC recommends to our client’s that a full reinstall be performed on the computer and that a recovery of any important data be performed prior to installation.

Downgrade
This service is where a client has requested that an older operating system be reinstalled. This procedure involves the complete removal of the operating system and a reinstallation of the requested operating system. It will be necessary to download all the necessary drivers associated with the computer manufacture hardware including all peripherals. Also, the reinstallation of all previous installed software applications. It may even be necessary to make other adjustment involving the repartition of the drive and BIOS changes associated with the secure boot feature (known as UEFI) Similar to an upgrade. It will depend on the hardware and peripherals, whether or not a downgrade can be supported by your computer. CCC will assist our clients in ovulating their present technical to determine if this is possible. In many cases, it can be done, as long as the computer manufactures components support the prior operating system.

Possible Reasons:

Bullet Point
Compatibility Software Issues w/Older Apps
Bullet Point Prefer An Earlier OS Over The Newer OS
Requires Less Resources Then Newer OS

lV. Partition of a Drive
This method is used to divide a hard disk drive (HDD) or a Solid State Drive (SSD)into multiple logical storage units. To treat one physical drive as if it were multiple disks, so different files system can be stored in a partition of the drive separate from that of the operating system -- securing the application and data files from being effected in the event of the OS becoming corrupt.

Benefits:

Bullet Point
Separation of Operating System and program files
Bullet Point Virtual Memory swapping/paging
Use of multiple boot setup of various operating systems
Protection or isolating files making it easier for recovery
If one partition becomes corrupted the others will remain intact
Increase in performance access by operating systems.

The two most common methods we use in restoring an operating system as it relates to partitioning of the drive and the drive letter assignments are as follows:

CCC - Standard Method 1
A creation in two separate logic drives (Drives C: & Drive D:) The Primary OS is on a primary partition section, which stores all the main operating system and a second partition which stores installed program applications Both are logical partition and are not Extended. This means should you desire to install additional applications you’ll have the option between the two partitions (Drive C: (default) Drive D: (Program/Data)). In this type of partitioning wee suggest using Drive C:for operating system and related software while Drive D: for all new installed programs. This can cause performance issues.

CCC - Standard Method 2
The other method is utilizing a single primary partition to accommodate both the operating system as well as your programs, essentially having a single drive (Drive C:). In this scenario you could created another primary partition and assign it for storage or better way would be to have an alternative drive be used as a backup storage in the event the primary drive becomes unusable.

We will discuses with you these options and/or any specific technical requirements you may need prior to reinstallation of your operating system to determine the best method to be used.

Operating System (MicroSoft)
If you do not have already a retail / OEM copy of a operating system we can assist you in obtaining a legal copy. Custom Computer Consulting offers two options in installing an operating system. They include either an OEM Operating system or a Full Retail Operating System. What are the differences?

OEM is less expensive then retail
OEM only covers version (32bit or 64bit version of the OS IIRC)
OEM versions do not offer any free Microsoft direct support from Microsoft support personnel
OEM does not allow the recovery of the license key.
OEM licenses are tied to the very first computer you install and activate it on. The License can not be transfer to another computer
OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard. If the motherboard is upgraded or replaced for reasons other than a defect, then a new computer has been created. Microsoft OEM operating system software cannot be transferred to the new computer, and the license of new operating system software is required. If the motherboard is replaced because it is defective, you do not need to acquire a new operating system license for the PC as long as the replacement motherboard is the same make/model or the same manufacturer's replacement/equivalent, as defined by the manufacturer's warranty. However, with Windows 8 and the "Personal Use" section of the OEM agreement, we are able to replace the motherboard and move the license to a new computer.
OEM versions cannot be used to direct

Volume License can be purchased. There are 3-types available: Open Value, Open Value Subscription, and Open License. These types of license are design for small to large companies usually with more then 100 employees.

We normally install OEMs in our builds unless instructed by our customer to install a retail version. In regards tor replacement or upgrading an operating system you can go either way but most cases our clients prefer the full retail version. All Operating Systems will be preactiavated prior to release and all original material used will be given to our clients for safe keeping. We’ll explain to our clients the advantage and disadvantages between various OS version. This will allow our client's to make a inform decision.

CCC - Service Time
Service Time will vary. It will depend on type of installation and if any recovery service is performed prior to installation of the operating system or post installation.
