Custom Computer Consulting Virtual Machine

What is a VM, Virtual Machine? It is a self-contained operating environment that behaves as if it is a separate computer. It executes programs as if it is physical another computer. It isolates and duplicates (emulates) a real computer. Using virtual machine gives the user may opportunities. It creates a computer within a computer, a virtual computer that runs on a single computer.

Advantages

Bullet Point
Runs nearly all operating system.
Bullet Point Multiple OS with strong isolation from each other.
Accessing multiple operating systems without having to reboot.
Bullet Point Allows you to run application that are no longer available.
Bullet Point Allows you to run specific platform design for specific operating systems.
Use of applications design for specific operating system without the need of multiple computers.
Software development and testing of applications.
A secondary operating system for use in testing software applications.
Preserve main stable operating system while letting you experiment w/another OS (operating system).
Avoid having to rebuild or reinstall application when they faultier.

For example a VM machine you have a primary operating system is Windows 7 64bit and would like to run a Mac OsX system along with a Lunix OS. Depending on your processor and memory availability you can run multiple operating systems on a single computer separately or side-by-side. It is important to remember to have enough memory to run the host operating system, plus the memory required for each guest operating system and the application on the host and guest. The more the better as it allows running more applications at any given time. We recommend a minimum amount of 8 gb of ram.

The two visualization software used widely is Virtual Box and VMware. Virtual Box is FREE where VMware has a FREE version known as VMware player, and two paid version, VMware Player Plus, and VMware workstation. The free version is limited in features. The player plus is licensed The primary difference between the player and workstation version it can create snapshots, cloning, remote connections to vsphere, sharing VMs, advanced virtual machine settings This version is design more for technical professionals such as software developers, quality assurance engineers, system engineers, IT administrators, technical support, trainers, etc.

We prefer to use VMware software comes in 3 flavors, a player version, a player plus version and workstation version.

Five Virtual Machine Applications:

Bullet Point
Virtual Box (Windows/Mac/Linux, FREE)
Bullet Point Parallels (Windows/Mac/Linux, COST)
VMware (Windows/Linux, Player (FREE), Player Plus (COST), Workstation (COST)
Bullet Point QEMU (Linux, FREE)
Bullet Point Windows Virtual PC (Windows, FREE)

CCC strongly advises backing up once all operating system installed then once all applications and tweaks have made accomplished back it up again. Even though the software can be installed at any time this will prefer to install during a FRESH OS install where the primary OS can be installed followed by others.
