MOCA is an alternative network installation for those who wish to have the benefits of a wired network without the cost associated with the installation of Ethernet wiring. MOCA, Multimedia Over Coaxial Alliance, uses preexisting coaxial cable lines that are already installed in your house and is most likely already being used by your local cable company.
MOCA consist of adapters that connects to your standard Ethernet devices creating a bridge between the two systems. You connect one adapter near your switch and another where you want a Ethernet connection, assuming you have already have available a coaxial cable at those locations. A splitter is used to split the signal and allow a device and adapter to share the coaxial line.
There are two version currently available
MoCA v 1.1 provides 175Mbps net throughputs (275Mbps PHY rate) and operates in the 500 to 1650MHz frequency range
MoCA v 2.0 supports two performance modes, Basic and Enhanced, with 400Mbits and 800Mbits net throughoutputs. Using 700Mbits and 1.4Gbits PHY rates respectively. Turbo Mode yields 1Gbits net throughput. Operating frequency range is 500 to 1650Mhz. Packet error rate is 1 packet error in 100 million. Also, it offers lower power modes of sleep and standby and is backward interoperability with MoCA 1.1

Netgear, D-Link, and ActionTec. Actiontec’s MoCA adapters are compatible with cable, satellite, and fiber optic service. There
is no interference or degradation of service.
Recommendation
Custom Computer Consulting recommends a combination of both wire (cat6) and wireless (preferably the new 802.11ac protocol) .
It allows for more bandwidth capacity for video streaming involving HD. We also recommend replacement of any WiFi system that is older then 3 years or less depending on the service usage as new technology is always evolving. This is simply an alternative to the
standard Ethernet wiring should the client choose this option.
